Waste & Recycling
Innovative solutions for more effective waste and recycling collection strategies.
metroSTOR bin enclosures and housings play a key role in changing attitudes towards recycling. With over 6,000 metroSTOR PB Series bin housing units in operation, they have become an essential tool in the effective management of residential waste-streams, increasing recycling rates and eliminating cross contamination while raising the profiles of communities with proven reductions in litter, fly-tipping and anti-social behaviour.
Waste and recycling collection regimes vary according to many factors including specific government policy, local authority targets and the practices of the waste management provider. The housing development, its layout, access restrictions and resident demographic will also shape how the waste and recycling produced can be placed, stored and collected most effectively. At metroSTOR, we well understand the scale of the challenge that housing and waste management teams face in providing solutions that provide real benefit, and by listening carefully, testing exhaustively and refining, we have developed what is probably the most comprehensive range of waste and recycling storage products in the world.
So far, the products manufactured by metroSTOR include bin housings and enclosures for all sizes of waste container, bin lockers, bin room buildings, bin room dividers, bin corrals, recycling centres, street bin screens and underground refuse systems.

Alongside the well established above ground waste and recycling storage units, metroSTOR have developed an innovative underground refuse storage (URS) system. With a class leading configurable design; the URS waste container and collection terminals can be specified for waste, stream and volume, according to location. These efficient waste management systems help housing providers and local authorities become cleaner and greener through mass waste collection systems, reducing storage area footprint, collection costs and carbon emissions from vehicle movements.
Bin housings provide a complete enclosure, enabling the waste container to be stored with the lid in the open position without loss of contents. Waste stream specific loading apertures with clear wrap signage on each unit door help avoid cross contamination of recycling streams, and internal steel deflector plates ensure no overspill of waste around the bin..
One of the most common fire risks involving waste concerns unsecured bins. Waste materials catch alight easily, burn fiercely and generate large volumes of toxic smoke, with fires able to spread very quickly into adjacent dwellings if adequate precautions are not taken. Fire Prevention bodies such as the FPA and CFPA-E state that bins should not be stored within 6m of a dwelling unless within a structure providing 30 minutes fire resistance.
metroSTOR bin stores provide a safe solution to the risk of bin fires and can be specified with cladding that provides 30 minutes fire resistance for use in those locations where a 6m clearance cannot be achieved.
