“The issue we were experiencing at St. Peters was the lack of shelter for pupils in our outside recreational areas. My main concern was working around the unusual shape and quite inaccessible space we were looking to cover, however the design and construction team from Streetspace showed me various options and talked through any concerns I had. The communication from the team was exceptional; we had an extremely fast turnaround, from purchase to install and were kept involved throughout the process. We always had access to the design team in the event of having any queries. Both staff and pupils love the design and the practicality of the canopy, we now have a space where large numbers of pupils can shelter in adverse weather conditions. Our design brief and additional needs were met 100%.”

“We suffered from significant overcrowding in our original refectory which caused problems with students being crowded together at break and lunchtimes. Students had to be sent outside into the yard, even in adverse weather. Streetspace designed a building which best fitted the specific location with a stylish, sympathetic and pleasing structure. Streetspace understood completely what we were wanting to achieve and the need for the new structure to fit sympathetically and aesthetically alongside our existing buildings, which were only five years old. They worked closely with us on the design, fitting out and installation. The new area is superb; we have a much calmer, more amenable environment for all our students who can sit and eat at tables with their friends. Behaviour has improved, students enjoy their break and lunchtimes and staff find the whole experience so much better. I would highly recommend Streetspace; talk to them, get a good understanding of their approach and ethos. They will exceed your expectations!”

“We needed to extend our canteen/eating area and a brick built extension was prohibitively expensive. An architect recommended Streetspace as a viable and cost-effective solution to our seating problem at breaks and lunchtime. The school was obliged to get three quotes, but Streetspace was the only company to be able to offer an end to end solution including groundwork’s. Staff were professional, informative and pleasant and they were also the most price competitive! Streetspace conducted a thorough survey and I was assured price uplifts would not occur. We are very pleased with the result! We now have additional seating for 70+ girls, and the added benefit of a covered outdoor classroom, which has been used extensively over the summer. The installation was quick and on time, with minimal disruption to the pupils & the day to day running of the school.”

“The new canopy looks great and the students are very excited to have this new dining space, but what has impressed us the most about working with Streetspace is the speed of installation. We sent a purchase order on the 22nd July and the structure was completed and handed over ready for use for the 1st September new term start date! This is no mean feat as it’s a big structure – 32m x 7m – and it included removing a grass area and paving over. The quality of workmanship is excellent, and the level of communication has been first class throughout. Wouldn't hesitate to recommend Streetspace and we look forward to working with the team again.”

Our particular project was to provide a covered connection between two very distinctive school buildings. When I first discussed the project with Nigel Deacon on a site visit, he was keen to understand our specific need and to offer various suggestions, rather than taking a “one size fits all” approach. Nigel subsequently returned with a design solution and was again happy to take questions and our suggestions on board to ensure we were completely satisfied. Further site visits followed to explain the installation process, confirm finishes and ensure that the timeframes fitted into the school’s expectations. The installation went extremely smoothly and was completed within the agreed schedule. The covered area has, in practice, surpassed expectations. As well as providing shelter from the elements for staff and students, the area is often used as an external learning space and there are plans to introduce an outside food service area in the location. Thanks to the time spent on the initial design, the covered area looks like it was always designed to be there rather than a late addition

The Mountbatten School

We recently invited proposals for the creation of a covered area near our servery kiosk and chose Streetspace because their simple, attractive and cost effective design provided the maximum amount of usable space. The 3D visuals were invaluable in gaining stakeholder support and the finished canopies are absolutely stunning. The Project Management and Installation Teams were excellent and I would have no hesitation in recommending Streetspace or using them again.

Colchester Zoo

The recently-completed covered area outside our Southern Fried Chicken restaurant is the 6th canopy structure that Streetspace have completed at Colchester Zoo, integrating perfectly with our ongoing programme of developing quality dining spaces across the Zoo, and thereby increasing visitor dwell times and ultimately customer spend. The stunning canopy form was developed to provide an iconic feature close to the zoo entrance, as well as a superlative level of weather-protection without compromising the design of the existing restaurant building. Streetspace, as we have come to expect, delivered a zero-defect project, on time and without disruption to the operation of our world-class tourist attraction.

The Regis School

The dining space has been in use for some months now and we have found it to be a comfortable environment, well suited to dining-type uses and very popular with students. Above all, we have been able to reduce pressure on other social spaces within the building and maintain a safe environment for all concerned. In addition, we have found that this space is not only useful for dining but is also fully utilised by the school during curricular time. The Regis School was lucky enough to benefit from wonderful new buildings as part of the BSF programme. However, limitations on the use of the available floor space meant that the central atrium areas which we used for dining purposes were not large enough to serve the school population; this caused major concerns around Health & Safety relating to overcrowding and obstruction of exit routes at lunch and break times. The availability of Capital Funding is always an issue and we were looking for a cost effective method of providing additional dining space without having an adverse visual impact on the aesthetic character of the buildings. Streetspace produced an innovative enclosed canopy proposal of a high quality that ticked all the boxes for us. Having obtained planning consent on our behalf, Streetspace then successfully completed the dining structure in only 12 weeks from the point of issuing our order, which included the summer break. The works were undertaken in a professional manner and all the stops were pulled out to achieve on time completion; the location was such that any over run would have had a significant impact on the safe operation of our school. As with virtually all building projects, there were some small issues following completion but we were impressed with the swift response from Streetspace in resolving these and have had no hesitation in recommending them to other schools looking for a similar solution.

Luton 6th Form College

With their ZONE concept, Streetspace have helped us to create additional quality dining and showcase space at LSFC at a very affordable cost. With matching glazing, the new structure fits in beautifully with the style and finishes of our College buildings and we can control the heating and ventilation to maintain a comfortable environment all year round which was an essential requirement for the utility of the area. We have approximately 2800 students on roll and achieving an additional 80 seats by enclosing the external terrace area has eased pressure on the dining facilities considerably and the students really enjoy the space. Work has been completed to a high standard and we would have no hesitation in recommending Streetspace to other Schools and Colleges with a similar requirement.

Sheringham High School

The students at Sheringham High School are absolutely thrilled with the new dining space. Not only does it resolve long standing safety issues associated with over crowding, it has also enabled us to create a vibrant new social space which looks fantastic, particularly now that the servery is open for business. It is already proving to be a real asset for the school.
