Cycle Stores and Bin Housings for a new housing development

Wallington Public Hall was built in 1934 and originally used as a cinema. With its art deco features it became the perfect venue for musical theatre and concerts, and in its heyday boasted big names such as The Who, David Bowie and the Rolling Stones. Over the years it became outdated and in need of refurbishment, eventually closing its doors for the final time in 2015.

Unused since its closure, the derelict site was renamed Steel Wheels House and assigned for residential redevelopment along with commercial frontage by client Sutton Living Ltd. The development was designed by Forge Architects and Kind & Co Ltd contractors were tasked with the build, which included the removal of the existing hall and the construction of a two block new build development. The project was created in a contemporary design, containing 31 residential apartments and encompassing a beautifully landscaped communal space for the residents of the properties to enjoy.

urbanspec was approached to deliver a package of design co-ordinated outdoor storage including both secure cycle storage and bin housings across the development. To optimise space an urbanspec HC 24.92 cycle store was specified, fitted with Centaur ST cycle stands. The rail fixed Sheffield hoop design allows 22 cycles to be comfortably accommodated. Clad in ZedPanel black V-Mesh and ForestPanel pressure treated tongue and groove cladding, the cycle store compliments the surrounding architecture beautifully.

A range of bin stores were chosen to make efficient use of the available space, and to keep refuse bins secure and more centrally located. An urbanspec H-Series Bin Room Building, housing 6no. 1280L 4-wheeled bins and an urbanspec PMN 2, housing 2no. 660L 4-wheeled bins with easy to use waste loading apertures were installed. Finally a urbanspec PL 4, housing 4no. 140L / 240L 2-wheeled bins was also installed, completing the package of bin stores.

This project is a great example of design co-ordinated outdoor storage with ForestPanel timber cladding used throughout and frame finishes for all units colour powder coated to RAL 1035 Pearl Beige.
