St Bartholomew’s School, Newbury
West Berkshire Council
Willmott Dixon selected Streetspace’s CENTAUR CS cycle shelter system to provide 144 covered cycle spaces for the new build St Bartholomew’s School, Newbury. This included galvanised cycle stands, and central roof panels to create large covered circulation spaces.
As part of the UK government-led Building Schools for the Future programme, West Berkshire Council commissioned a complete new school to enable St Bartholomew’s School to consolidate its operations into a single site. The new buildings were completed in November 2010, with the demolition of old school buildings and external landscaping completed ready for the new school year in September 2011.
With capacity for over 1700 students, a substantial amount of cycle storage was required. A single area, easily accessed from the school entrance, was designated. The completed area uses CENTAUR CS cycle shelters to keep bicycles clean and dry, with CENTAUR ST cycle stands, which do not require users to lift their bicycle and easily accommodate double locking. The hot dip galvanised frame finish ensures long-term durability.
