Greenroof bin stores add biodiversity to prestigious park

Located close to the M25 and just nine miles away from Heathrow Airport, Bourne Business Park offers flexible office space to businesses in Weybridge and the surrounding areas.

300 and 400 Dashwood Lang Road comprise 90,000ft2 of this office space and represent the third and final phases of the development of Bourne Business Park which, prior to the establishment of the new site, already boasted four buildings totalling 115,000ft2.

On behalf of LaSalle Investment Management, VolkerFitzpatrick were tasked with delivering this final phase of the project which, in addition to two buildings, also included the construction of a café and a car park with space for 470 vehicles, as well as extensive landscaping.

AJ100 architects tp bennett specified two identical metroSTOR PBH Bin Room Buildings to help business park occupants to easily dispose of waste. These stores are ideal for properties like this that have large numbers of bins to store, where facilities management take care of the bin areas.

The finished project is BREEAM certified ‘Excellent’, placing it among the top 10% of UK new non-domestic buildings. Environmental concerns, therefore, were key in the development of this phase of the Bourne Business Park. The enclosures were specified with metroSTOR’s extensive sedum green roofs, which help combat pollution by filtering harmful gases from the air and recycling carbon dioxide.

A range of benefits can be obtained in the BREEAM assessment, ranging from water retention and energy consumption reductions to responsible materials sourcing and life cycle costing. However, the availability of credits in the ‘land use and ecology’ section is of most relevance to green roofs. The exact number of credits available varies depending on location and application and schemes can be devised to include appropriate mixes of plant species to attract different wildlife. metroSTOR’s green roofs are capable of supporting drought tolerant species such as low-growing mosses and sedums, as well as wildflowers which are attractive to bees and butterflies.

The bin stores were supplied with custom polyester powder coated fascia panels and low-maintenance pressure treated softwood cladding. A hot dip galvanised finish to all structural steelwork ensures longevity, backed by metroSTOR’s class leading warranty. The units were delivered to site in panel form for swift erection by our installation teams.
