metroSTOR PBM Bin Storage Unit with Green Roof
A metroSTOR PBM Green Roof Bin Store has been installed to help increase recycling, with minimal impact on the oasis of nature surrounding Bevin Court, a Grade II* listed modernist apartment building designed by Berthold Lubetkin.
A few minutes walk from the crowded streets of Kings Cross, Bevin Court is surrounded by wildflower ‘meadows’, allotments, and mature trees. With the block’s waste chutes only allowing for one waste stream, extra communal recycling bins needed to be provided in the grounds of the block. The challenge was to secure and obscure these bins so they had minimal impact on the architecture of the block, and the grounds.
The borough’s landscape architects selected a metroSTOR PBM with a green roof, on the recommendation of colleagues from the recycling department who had already successfully used the PBM in many locations. The green roof variant of this bin store incorporates all the features of the standard store. This unit was specified with recycling apertures to prevent the bins being used for bagged waste, and a green wood stain finish was applied to the timber cladding, further helping the unit to blend into the grassy surroundings.
